AWS instance type suggestions to handle 1 - 4 publishers streaming to 500 - 1000 viewers?

Question

Hi there, I'm trying to figure out which AWS instance type to pick for our edge instances (cluster setup in AWS). Most of the time we have a 1 - 4 publishers broadcasting to 1 - 100 viewers throughout the day but generally 1 - 2 times a day we get a spike where 1 - 4 publishers are streaming to 500 - 1000 viewers. And occasionally, even more than that.

Ideally, I'd like the first edge instance we have running to be able to handle that situation of 1 - 4 publishers broadcasting to 500 - 1000 viewers. And then after that level, I'm fine with autoscaling creating more edge instances.

I'm wondering if Ant Media has usage tests they've done already to help me decide which instance type to use?

I've done a bit of load testing with our current c5.xlarge edge setup and that's not going to be enough. With c5.xlarge, it seems like we hit 85 - 90% usage with 1 publisher streaming to 200 viewers. So I'm wondering if a c5.4xlarge would handle our needs. I wanted to check here first to see if there's any guidance on this before changing our AWS stack.

Thanks!

Hi @WebinarKit
As we recommended in the support ticket, you can view the results of our load testing further down the page at https://antmedia.io/cost-calculator-old/.
These results were calculated using 480p video, and as resolution and bit rate increase, the numbers will be decreased.

Could you please tell us about your stream resolution and bit rate so that we can recommend the appropriate instance type? Also, do you use ABR on the server side?
