Beginner trying to get the AMS running on AWS

Hello, 

I recently subscribed for a AMS eneterprise through the AWS marketplace. The instance is up and running and I'm able to login to the dashboard, make playlists etc. 

But I'm not able to publish a stream. I suspect its because I dont have https. So I tried following the instructions to activate ssl. I downloaded putty and managed to connect using my ppk as root user ubuntu. 

login as: ubuntu

Authenticating with public key "ams"

Welcome to Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.3.0-1035-aws x86_64)

But I'm not able to execute any of the commands. It wont even list out the directories and cant recognize the ls command. 

By now you might have figured out I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing and I'm trying to figure it out. Can anyone recognize what the issue might be?
